Congratulations to Delta Sigma Theta on celebrating 100 Years! Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was formed in 1913 by 22 women at Howard University in Washington DC. The organization incorporated in 1930, expanded and now represents over 200,000 black college educated women and has over 900 chapters in the United States. Delta strived to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need. “The Howard University family commends and salutes Delta Sigma Theta as you return to the place of your birth,” said Sidney Ribeau, President of Howard University. “It is our hope that you will find inspiration from your time at the Capstone, as your founders did a century ago, to forge a brilliant future with renewed vigor, visionary leadership, and commitment to meet the challenges of the next century.”

“Since its founding on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two Howard students, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has become inextricably linked to the legacy of Howard University,” Ribeau added.

Across Howard’s campus stand several historic sites of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, including the 1979 iconic sculpture “Fortitude” which stands in honor of the Sorority’s Founders. During this year’s celebration, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will adorn historic Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel with the installation of a stained glass window. We will take you to see the window, the sculpture Fortitude, and other key sights at Howard.
